Private pilot with counsel

Pattern evidence for people who were harmed.

Bona Mensura reads the public record for law firms and finds companies whose own filings show many similar, verifiable harms. It surfaces leads. Attorneys decide.

How it works

From the record to a brief counsel can act on.

Every benefit plan, every public company, and every regulated product leaves a paper trail that the company itself signed. Bona Mensura reads that trail at scale and brings back the few cases that merit counsel's attention.

1

Reads the record

Filings companies make under penalty of perjury: what they promised, what they paid, what they admitted. Millions of them, every month, from official sources.

2

Finds the pattern

Screens built for a practice area ask one question of every record: where is the gap between what was promised and what was paid, and how many people sit inside it.

3

Hands counsel a brief

One page per lead. Who was affected and how many. What the records show, in plain words. What the company itself said, quoted and linked. What to verify before anything else happens.

The standard

Built for real issues only.

A tool that finds cases can be pointed at anyone. These four rules keep it pointed at bad actors whose harm is already on the record.

Leads, not findings

Every page says what the records show and what a human should verify. Nothing is a conclusion. Attorneys decide.

Official records first

Every figure comes from a filing the company or its plan signed, linked on the page. A pattern with no footprint in the public record is weak, and is treated that way.

No contact with anyone

Bona Mensura never contacts complainants and produces no contact lists. It builds no profiles of individuals.

Nothing published

Briefs go to the firm they were prepared for and to no one else. Nothing is ranked in public. Nothing is posted.

Where it looks

The company's own words, and the records it filed.

The first practice area is employee benefits: pensions, retirement savings and health plans, governed by federal law and documented in detail every year.

Each practice area is a playbook: which records to read, which questions to ask, how to weigh the answers. Adding a practice area means writing a playbook, not rebuilding the engine.

  • Benefit plan filingsWhat every plan took in, paid out, and admitted, year by year.
  • Securities filingsWhat the company told its shareholders, quoted and dated.
  • Court docketsWhat has already been filed, and what was dismissed.
  • Regulatory recordsComplaints, recalls and enforcement, as the next playbooks come online.

The name

Bona mensura

Latin for good measure. It is the oldest justice language there is: honest scales, full weight, a just balance.

It says three things at once. It is the standard we hold companies to. It is what the tool does, which is measure the gap between what was promised and what was paid. And it is what the people harmed are owed, which is full measure.
